The Intermediary launches National Mortgage Awards – Second Charge

The Intermediary has announced the launch of the National Mortgage Awards – Second Charge, which will take place on 14 November 2024 at RIBA, 66 Portland Place, London.

The event will celebrate achievements within the second charge mortgage market, bringing together 220 industry professionals including brokers and lenders. Guests will enjoy live entertainment, dinner, and a celebrity-hosted ceremony, marking a significant occasion for the sector.

All tables sold out ahead of the launch, though sponsorship opportunities remain available. Pure Panel Management is the headline sponsor, with United Trust Bank sponsoring the drinks reception.

Ryan Fowler, managing director at Astor Media, said: “This is a very exciting launch, as it gives us a chance to get out into the market and support the work being done on the ground. The second charge sector is a huge part of this industry, with lenders and brokers alike doing great work to help borrowers, from those looking for additional financial freedom while maintaining their original mortgage rate, through to consolidating debt and managing their finances during a difficult economic period.

“We’d like to thank everyone who has already committed to supporting the awards, especially headline sponsor Pure Panel Management, and all those who have helped make the event a sell-out before it was even launched.”

Craig Collins, specialist mortgages director at Admiral Money, added: “By bringing this industry together for an evening of specialist awards, networking and celebration, we aim to shine a light on a really important part of the market, setting it up for even greater success in 2025.”

Buster Tolfree, director of mortgages at United Trust Bank, said: “Good customer outcomes, technology-enabled customer journeys, and fast service are just some of the features of this market. With interest rates having risen so sharply, second charges are an important, and often underused, part of the mortgage adviser toolkit. With every other specialist product having its own awards, second charge mortgages are conspicuous by their absence in the landscape! At UTB, we are excited by the prospect of The Intermediary righting this wrong, and working with the industry’s leading brokers and lenders to reward those firms and individuals who represent the finest stars of the sector.”

James Gilliam, managing director of Pure Panel Management, said: “Pure has always considered ourselves a champion of the second charge industry and the idea to not only celebrate the amazing people we’ve worked with for over two decades but support this event was something we couldn’t miss. This will be the event of the year for us and we’re proud to be the headline sponsor for the inaugural National Mortgage Awards – Second Charge and look forward to an evening of celebrating the best of the best.”

Matt Tristram, director and co-founder of Loans Warehouse, concluded: “I’ve had a vision for an awards that highlight the amazing second charge industry but we’ve never had the right platform to make it a reality. The Intermediary has evidenced to me that they want to help elevate the profile of second charge lending in the UK to the same level as mortgages. As a result, we now have the platform to celebrate this industry; we now have the National Mortgage Awards – Second Charge, an exclusive event for second charge lenders, brokers and stakeholders, and there has never been a better time to launch!”
