Astor Media has confirmed the promotion of Jessica O’Connor to deputy editor at The Intermediary. Having served in the role on an interim basis in recent months, she now steps into the position permanently as the brand continues to expand its editorial team.
O’Connor was the first journalist hired for The Intermediary and has played a central role in developing the publication since launch.
She has helped lead daily news coverage, developed key long-form features across both digital and print, and contributed to shaping the title’s editorial voice.
O’Connor said: “I am delighted to step into my new role as deputy editor. After nearly three years with Astor Media, this promotion is a reflection not only of the opportunities I’ve been given, but also of the incredible mentorship I’ve received throughout my time here.
“I’m immensely grateful to all my colleagues who have supported me along the way, and I look forward to working together during this exciting new chapter!”
Jessica Bird, group editorial director at Astor Media, said: “Jess has more than earned this. She’s shown real commitment, sharp judgment and strong delivery across both daily news and long-form features.
“Being recognised in two national awards categories speaks volumes, and I’m very pleased to see her formally step into the deputy role.”
Ryan Fowler, managing director at Astor Media and publisher of The Intermediary, said: “Jess has been a driving force behind what The Intermediary has become.
“She’s grown with the brand, delivered consistently, and earned the respect of everyone she works with. Her promotion is absolutely deserved.”
O’Connor will continue to help lead day-to-day editorial operations across The Intermediary’s output, supporting the brand’s continued growth.
